The Tragedy in Haiti

bannerI am devastated by what happened in Haiti. It’s astounding how one 35 second earthquake can cause so much pain, fear, and destruction. Things like this sometimes leave even the most “enlightened” people uncomprehending.

First, I want to say that my heart goes out to all of those who are in Haiti right now living through this (or the many who didn’t survive) and also those who have loved ones living with the situation.

You are in my heart and prayers.

The bigger question is…What good will come from this? What’s possible? I believe that from every breakdown, even horrific ones like what happened with the Haiti earthquake, there’s potential for a breakthrough.

When disasters happen it’s common and natural to dwell on the scope of the tragedy. However, I happen to believe that true mastery is taking what happens and finding the lesson and new opportunities in it, as hard as they may be to unearth in the moment.

The bottom line is, life is full of change and opportunities. Maybe Haiti now has an opportunity to band together and build a stronger nation.

I think this article affirms the points I am making:

As a child Haiti was my neighbour, our government took them in
because allthough not rich like the developed countries we allways helped. One reason Haiti is impoverished is because after gaing independence they had to pay France, others took over for a while then abandoned them because the people did not bend to their will
It is great to see the outpouring of love, a lot is focused on the children who everyone wants to rescue,
Let us remeber to help the Nation there are mothers and fathers include them so they will be able to nurture the next generation.
I hope we enquire about their need and not impose our wishes unto them,
I have made an effort to educate myself about the history which I had forgotten, it is rich I hope others do the same, it is not just about Papa Doc, it is about how they were treated because they wanted to decide their destiny.

  • well said Valerie, thank you
