One of the things that makes spirituality so difficult to understand, and makes it so easy for those who are reluctant to believe to question and argue, is the fact that everyone experiences spirituality in a different way.
Many consistently spiritual people move through their lives attending services, reading about their selected religions and truly believing the teachings as truths despite having never experienced a spiritual breakthrough.
Often, after an extensive period focusing on the tenants of their religion and engaging in quiet contemplation, these devout believers do attain the breakthroughs they have been seeking for so long. If you are awaiting the arrival of your spiritual breakthrough, be on the lookout for signs that this long-awaited event is imminent.
1. Restlessness
If you use to sleep like a log, but now find yourself struggling to turn in at days end, you could be approaching a spiritual breakthrough. Many report that their minds are busier in the days leading up to their spiritual awakening, making it more difficult to shut down their brains come night time, which results in periods of sleeplessness.
2. Physical Reaction
As you connect with your spirituality, your body will respond in a number of ways, which may result in physically apparent symptoms of your awakening. As your hormones surge and your body wakes up, you may feel shivers, chills, tingles or goosebumps. Others report pressure, vibrations or buzzing in and around their crown.
3. Retrospection
There is a lot going on in your mind during a period of spiritual breakthrough. For many, as their brains work overtime, things that happened in the past start to resurface. You may find yourself questioning decisions you made years or even decades earlier as your thought process changes and your newly deepened spiritual understanding modifies your pre-established decision-making.
4. Deepening Connections
As you move through your spiritual breakthrough, you will develop an enhanced understanding of the spiritual concept of service and you will likely find that empathy and understanding, things you may have previously had to work toward, now come more naturally.
For many, a precursor to this process is the deepening of these bonds and an enhanced understanding of love and compassion. If you suddenly feel closer to and more in love with those around you than you ever have, your spiritual awakening may be on the horizon.
5. Mental Awakening
As your spirituality explodes, your connection with the world will expand beyond your wildest imaginings. When this happens, you will understand the world in ways you never did before. If you find yourself experiencing more insight and inspiration than you previously did, you may be in the process of spiritual awakening.
Similarly, if things that were once a mystery to you are now suddenly clear, you may be benefiting from the improved sight and comprehension that commonly occurs as you connect spiritually with the outside world.
6. Roadblock Disappearance
When you tried to connect with your spirituality in the past, you may have found yourself faltering at roadblock after roadblock. While these obstacles may have seemed unconnected, they were all, truly, a byproduct of the fact that you had yet to experience your spiritual breakthrough and, as a result, weren’t in the right place to connect.
As you begin to experience this awakening, these roadblocks will likely disappear. If you suddenly find your path to spirituality much easier than before, you’re likely in this process.
7. Modified Prayer Process
Particularly if you have been a lifelong member of your current religion, it can be quite alarming to find the process of prayer suddenly different. Many individuals who experience a spiritual breakthrough report that they feel different during prayer than they ever did before. Some state that they have to modify the entire process by which they pray to accommodate for these differences.
These differences stem from the fact that, after you experience a spiritual breakthrough, your connection to higher powers is irrevocably changed. Though potentially frightening at first, it should be no surprise that your prayer process needs to change to accommodate this modified connection.
