How To Become The Best Version Of Yourself

By Jessica Grimshaw

Do you ever feel like there are things that you could do to improve your life? Maybe you often wonder how you can better yourself?

I think that a lot of people would like to become a better version of themselves, but it’s knowing where to start that might stop people from actually doing so.

When we say ‘become a better version of yourself’ we don’t usually mean that who you are now is not good enough.

What this actually means is, we need to embrace ourselves and improve on certain things that we do, which will ultimately help us to become the best version of ourselves.

No-one is perfect, but there are things that we do, without knowing, which can stop us from becoming better.

Here are 7 things you can do to become the best version of yourself.

1. Stop Listening To Your Own Negative Talk

I think at some point, everyone can struggle with their own negative self-talk. We often judge ourselves and can sometimes be quite destructive.

When we start to listen to this voice we can often doubt ourselves and let it bring us down. Try and become aware whenever you start to hear this negative talk and change it.

If you can show yourself compassion and kindness instead of constantly judging yourself and being negative, you are caring for yourself.

It can be hard to stop our inner critic, but when you become aware of it, you can try and ignore it, replacing these thoughts with positive ones.

Try and remember that, more often than not, you are your own critic and stopping the negative voice can really improve not only your self-confidence but also your self-worth. This can really help you in becoming the best version of yourself.

2. Celebrate The Small Things

We can often focus on big goals in our life and we are only happy when we achieve them. I am guilty of this too.

However, if you can take a look at the steps you take to achieve your goals, you can recognize what you have actually done.

Before you achieve your goals, you normally have to take a number of steps to get there.

Celebrate your small wins and achievements and don’t be afraid to be proud of them.

When we recognize our small wins, we can start to change our mindset, which can help us to be more positive and more motivated to reach our main goals.

3. Embrace Failure

I think that it can be a very common thing, to fear failure.

No-one wants to make mistakes or fail at something, however, if you can change your view on failure, this will make all the difference.

People need to fail in order to learn and improve. Being scared of failing will only do one thing: hold you back. In order to succeed, you are likely to make mistakes and these mistakes should be seen as a learning curve.

People who worry about failing are likely to give up before they even start and if you try to stop doing this, you could see just how much you can achieve.

Next time you start doubting yourself, tell yourself that some of the most successful people failed before they achieved their goals and that in order to succeed you need to embrace your mistakes.

When you embrace failure, you are that step closer to reaching your goals as well as becoming a better version of yourself.

4. Stop Comparing Yourself To Others

To become the best version of you, try not to focus on others.

This probably seems obvious, but when you are constantly comparing yourself, you are focusing on what you may lack and be jealous of what others have.

When you can look at yourself and see what you do have and what is great about yourself, you are staying positive and giving out a positive energy.

When you compare yourself to others, you are most likely bringing yourself down, which in turn will put out a negative energy which will not help you in bettering yourself.

Try and realize that no one is perfect and everyone has their own struggles. Something that you may not like about yourself, others will love and vice versa.

Once you accept who you are and focus on yourself instead of others, you can start to experience self-love and acceptance which will really help you on your journey of embracing who you are.

5. Try And Learn Something New Every Day

Another way that you can embrace yourself and life, is to try and learn new things.

No matter how big or small, try and learn something new every day. Doing this can really help to keep you motivated and passionate about life.

Doing this can also help with boredom and will keep your mind active.

Learning is very refreshing and excites your mind. When you are trying new things every day, you can become more open to challenges.

You may surprise yourself and find something that you love and are absolutely great at.

However, this can only happen if you actually do it, so maybe think of a couple of new challenges you would like to do and learn, and start from there.

Not only will doing this keep you passionate about life and your goals, but it will give you more experiences and a more enhanced quality of life.

6. Forget About The Hours And Focus On Living In The Now

Have you ever had an assignment or job where you constantly watch the clock, and the time seemed to go by so slowly?

This is because you had been watching the clock, making the hours go by slower.

This can be the same in life, whether you are trying to reach a goal or just complete a chore.

Try and forget about the time and focus on being present.

For example, if you are doing a 40-minute workout, instead of checking the time every 5 minutes, put your headphones in and get lost in the music.

Doing this should help the time go by and help you to enjoy the work out more.

Just like when you focus on the present instead of the future or past, you are being aware of what is going on now and not worrying about things you cannot change.

This can really help you when you are trying to achieve your goals or are just trying to live a more positive, fulfilling life.

7. Build Relationships With People Who Make You Feel Good

One of the best ways to stay positive and passionate about life is to surround yourself with people who make you feel good.

When you have friends and family who constantly lift you up and help you to feel positive, you can really start to appreciate life more.

When you are friends with toxic people, who bring you down and do not appreciate you, you are not going to feel good.

When you have positive relationships, you may find that they can help you in more ways than one.

They could encourage you to go for your goals, rather than bring you down by belittling your goals and dreams.

Make sure your friends, family, and relationships are all with people who make you feel good. I completely understand that this is not always possible as not everyone is perfect.

But when others give off a positive energy, you are likely to also receive this energy and feel a lot better, and this can be the same with negative energy, so be sure that you rid yourself of any toxic friendships.
